I got an A overall in precalculus after my final exam, do you think i am adequately prepared for calculus?
ya:) but u can do more practice becoz "Practice makes a man perfect". In either way u can do ur best. Best of Luck:)
My friends said calculus was REALLLLLY hard so im scared for it
nope, it isn't
Anyway to get a head start before i take it in the fall at college?
ya , u can do this by having confidence in urself. have guts. & head start is revision.
How would i start learning calculus though?
Have a calculus book and start reading it & any doubts then what is OS for! but don't forget to do examples. by the way there is no easy way. for learning; u can search free calculus videos on net.
Calculus where? University? College?
university of Arizona
it's analysis that you should be worried about. calculus in the first year is easy.
what do you mean analysis?
are you taking up BS Math?
No i am not...
Im dual majoring in physics and astronomy
It is amazing (and a bit depressing) that you can finish HS and go into a science degree without having seen calculus. But setting that aside, if you want to get a head start, look at the calculus material and exercises at: khanacademy.org
well i will be taking calculus 1 and calculus 2 next year
Not your fault, it's just a sad state of affairs in the U.S. right now, where I live and am a citizen for the record. But when I was in Australia I had already had 3 semesters of calculus by the time I finished High School.
Yah thats why i want to learn it over the summer!
JamesJ is the smartest calc/physics person I have yet to meet online, so he knows what he's talking about. I wish I could have went to HS in Austrailia.
James what did you major in?
Mathematics and Physics; on the Physics side, more General Relativity/Astrophysics
Hmmm, that's pretty interesting considering the two things I suggested Brent
Thats extremely cool! I am thinking about either majoring in physics and math, physics and astronomy, or astronomy and geology. I am going to be attending the university of arizona for college which is well known for being one of the top 10 astronomy programs in the USA and the BEST #1 in the nation geology program, so im not sure what i should do..
Do the thing that turns you on, which ever they may be. You'll also find that what you like is much more contingent on the professors teaching you that you might have imagined.
Do you think that some of these majors have more jobs available than others? I would love to be a professor some day, that is truly my end goal
Check out MIT OCW, the course you're looking for is 18.01. Also use Khan Academy. If you know what book you'll need for your calculus course, buy it early and start reading it and working some exercises. Also, use the resources that you have here on OS. I'm always happy to explain any calculus concept that you're struggling with, as are many other users here.
no
Wow, @wangkan07 , that was such an appropriate response.
Calc is easy. If your precalc professor teaches calc 1 then have him. Since more than likely he knows what you know and wont throw nothing at you that you dont have the tools for.
