Read the statement shown below. “A tiger is a cat, and a cat has two legs.” Which statement has the same truth value as the above statement? A poodle is a cat, or a dog has four legs. An ostrich is a bird, and a bird has two legs. An ostrich is an insect, or all insects have five wings. A poodle is a dog, or a poodle has two eyes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is choice a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it is A too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think ParthKohli?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ParthKohli Is it choice a?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

An ostrich is a bird, and a bird has two legs.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i think not 100% sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you find that answer?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

well it goes A ... is a ..., and a ... has two legs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that statement is true on both parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the statement in question is false on the right side

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a cat has two legs is also true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, but not completely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a cat has four legs

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the words or, all, are quite meaningful in logic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think we have to use a truth tab;le

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

that is also true @dahmanman if a cat a four legs it must have two legs, right/?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

all cats have two legs is just as false as all cats have 4 legs, im sure some cats have zero legs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I think you are right

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

but im not sure exactly what 'truth value' means

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you use a truth table the truth vlues are the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its what the letters in a truth table represent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what a truth tables is?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

vaguely, i haven got one or seen on though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I guess we both need to study a bit more

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

well i might go to sleep instead it is 307 in the morning where i am

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well that answer was wrong

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

oh im sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I only missed two out of 18

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what was the right answer/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it doest say

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

lets work it out anyway, i want to know now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sounds good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it would be A poodle is a dog, or a poodle has two eyes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what I thought in the beginning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I changed the answer

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

@rolla can you explain your reasoning/?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok will it says a tiger is a cat right , so a poodle is a dog , and they are both true statements

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a tiger is a cat really?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the othe rone i missed was Which of these is a valid conclusion? All carpenters make furniture. Patrick is a carpenter. Therefore Patrick does not make furniture. All carpenters make furniture. Patrick is not a carpenter. Therefore Patrick makes furniture. All carpenters make furniture. Patrick makes furniture. Therefore Patrick is a carpenter. All carpenters make furniture. Patrick does not make furniture. Therefore Patrick is not a carpenter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its from the cat family , right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah u r correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok, but however is read the second part of both sentences the are both invalid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok, but however is read the second part of both sentences the are both invalid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a poodle does have two eyes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i thinks its A poodle is a dog, or a poodle has two eyes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can that be invali

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

for the second one i would say All carpenters make furniture. Patrick does not make furniture. Therefore Patrick is not a carpenter. but i might be wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the third is what I chose, its worng

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the fourth one is the obvious chice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think Unkle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh duh , i was looking at the second one , i thought this was easy but its actually hard becuase the second chose doesnt work either

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

@dahmanman hey you got 88.9% in you last logic assessment maybe you can explain it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus Anyways, thanks for the help.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

im glad my cats have more than two legs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha
