Because there is math all around us.  Humans created math to understand their world.  Math does not need us, we need math......

Even if there is one right answer, there could be different versions of that answer and many methods to arrive at the same conclusion.
We can take a math problem and solve it using algebra (using equations), or geometry (if we can model a visual model of the problem), as we study calculus then we find faster ways to solve the same problems.
