I am a Grad School nursing student writing a research paper. My question is: if I would like to quote a statement from a medical professional in my paper, must I and how do I properly give them credit in the body of text as well as works cited page. Also, if I just want to use a quoted statement from a friend, how do I show credit or must I show anything for this in the body of text and on the works cited page?
There are basically two types of referencing, APA and MLA styles. But these differ from school to school, even from one department to another in the same school. What you need to do is to ask your department or the project supervisor what format do they want. For your second question, in science you cant use a quoted statement from a friend. You have to be scientific through out. You can only acknowledge your friends in the acknowledge page at the beginning.
Ianre, your answer is extremely pertinent and so helpful. Thank-you for taking time out of your weekend, especially to answer immediately! This is my first course after many years and so much to relearn! Take care. deb
If you use anything from a personal conversation it is cited as "personal communication" along with name of source, date, etc.
