Parenthesis are your friend when in doubt use them :)

10x^2+9x/5x^2+3x

is not the same as

(10x^2+9x)/(5x^2+3x)


People should use http://www.wolframalpha.com/

to show you in how humans view it and see difference. We call it pretty print.

Anyone else know similar sites like wolfram? I heard of http://www.numberempire.com/ is good too.

If you are an academic or an active student in school, Wolfram offers Mathematica at very reduced prices. By the way, the version 8 installation media is on the order of 1 giga bytes and contains over 3000 functions.

I have a ti 89 that does a lot of calc stuff and symbolic algebra. i doubt it has 1 gig of memory.

Running my copy on a mid 2010 Apple IMac with 8Gb of ram. Able to run a native version of Mathematica, two virtual versions of Windows, XP Pro and 98SE, and two virtual versions of Linux, Ubuntu and Debian, simultaneously. Each virtual OS appears as a window on the desktop. Can copy and paste between each OS except 98SE.
