What economic concept do political candidates ignore?

I do not think that there is just one concept that they ignore. They do tend to concentrate on Benefits of a proposal rather than the Costs. They often know the possible impact on the economy, but want to ignore that in order to further a "populist" cause in order to get re-elected. wmw
