On a number line, if \[\left| x - 4 \right| = 7 \] then the distance between x and 4 is 7. True of false?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

the | symbols mean "ignore the sign of the result" i.e. just look at the "magnitude" of the result

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

s, for example:\[|7|=7\]and:\[|-7|=7\]

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda.....so....I'm guessing this is a false statement?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

where can x be on the number line so that it is 7 away from the number 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11?
