Sonia measures the length of her pencil case as 15cm to the nearest cm. (a) Write down the greatest length this could be. ………….………….cm (1) (b) Write down the least length this could be. ……………………..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u work it out

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

14.50cm is the least and 15.49cm is the greatest.

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes. If it'd be for 14.49, then it'd be rounded to 14, and if it is 15.5, then it'll be rounded to 16. Good work @ajprincess ^_^

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

Thanx. @parthkohli.

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

suppose the number that has been rounded to the nearest whole number is x. Then to find find the least possible value it can take, subtract 0.5 from x and to find the greatest possible value it can take add 0.49. Is that clear?
