Is vinegar an acid or a base? What about baking soda? Explain how you know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vinegar is a weak acid, since it's usually sold at 5% acidity in most stores. As for baking soda.. it is essentially pure sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Although this compound can potentially serve as an acid, sodium bicarbonate solutions tend to be slightly basic.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Correct, now you can try adding some drops of vinegar to baking soda. It will help you prove one is an acid and the other a base.
