Only chocolate and vanilla cones were sold at an ice cream shop. In one day, the number of chocolate cones sold was 1 more than 4 times the number of vanilla cones sold. A total of 121 cones were sold that day. Let c = # of Choc. cones sold and v= # of vanilla cones sold. Write equations to determin number of choc. cones sold then use the equations to determine the # of choc. cones sold.

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Let c = number of chocolate cones sold and v= number of vanilla cones sold. From "the number of chocolate cones sold was 1 more than 4 times the number of vanilla cones sold" we know that\[c=4v+1\] From "only chocolate and vanilla cones were sold" and "a total of 121 cones were sold" we know that \[c+v=121\]
