What you must realize is that \(\Delta x_1 = \Delta x_2\) and \(\Delta y_1=\Delta y_2\). In other words, you must go the same amount right, and then the same amount up to go from \(X\) to \(M\) as you do to go from \(M\) to \(Y\).
