HOw do I set this up? A social club charters a bus at a cost of $1480 to take a group of members on an excursion to Atlantic City. At the last minute, 3 people in the group decide not to go. This raises the transportation cost per person by $3. How many people originally intended to take the trip?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

let p = no. of people originally intended to make trip c = cost per person then pc = 1480 when there is p - 3 people (c +3)(p-3) = 1480 solve these 2 equations to get the value of p

I got an answer of two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer should be 40 if u solve it by my way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok let me try again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 40 the correct answer

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yw - you can solve the equations by substitution method

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okkk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait... can you please show the steps to solving this question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never mind.. all you had to do was substitution and some quadratics XDXD
