its hard :( i cant figure it out..

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is it about the vertical line test that you don't understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just feel like i didnt learn this material i never even hear of this before :(

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you know what a function is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its a realationship between values?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

A function is a set of ordered pairs in which no two ordered pairs have the same first number.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

{(1,2) (3,-8) (5,15)} is an example

OpenStudy (mertsj):

None of the ordered pairs have the same first number so it is a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooo ok. makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i dont get graphs at all im really good at algebra but functions are really hard for me :'(

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Now if something is not a function, then there are two ordered pairs that DO have the same first number. Like (3,6) and (3,-4). And if you graphed those two ordered pairs, what would you notice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there liner?
