Why would decaying logs in the woods not be an abiotic factor?

OpenStudy (lanre):

Abiotic factors are non living things in the environments. Decaying log cannot be classified as nonliving because it was a living thing before. In fact death is one of the characteristics of living things. All living things will die and decay.

OpenStudy (lanre):

The bottom line is that decaying logs was once a living thing so it cannot be classified as abiotic factor ( non living)
