Anyone know of good books on working with Android application development?

If you are looking into starting developing android apps, I would advise you to think twice about using a book. The thing is, mobile dev is changing even faster than "old" mainstream software dev is. SDK versions change etc. If you really want a book, I think that WROX has really good books, in general (and not-too-expensive ones also :-) ). Check: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1118017110/ref=cm_sw_su_dp With that said, check: https://developer.android.com/guide/index.html and http://commonsware.com/ The last link is a yearly subscription site (40$ per year), but you get full access to 3 updated Android books. I think it's worth (at least for a year), so you can check a book that is constantly updated. Also, check thenewboston's channel at youtube, he has a playlist with 200 videos covering android dev. And, on top of that, good luck :-). I am beginning on it also, and I am having quite some fun so far :-)

Take a look in the Deitel & Deitel website, they write a lot of good books about programming, the next link takes you to a description of one of their Android books: http://www.deitel.com/Books/Android/AndroidHowtoProgram/tabid/3634/Default.aspx

Google has an amazing amount of free resources for their environment. Here's an app inventor that is entirely visual: http://teach.appinventor.mit.edu/ . And then : https://developers.google.com/appengine/.
