A bag contains 3 red marbles, 4 blue marbles, and 6 green marbles. Which pair of events are complementary events?
a. choosing a red marble; choosing a blue marble
b. choosing a red marble; choosing a marble that is not red
c. choosing a blue marble; choosing a marble that is not green
d. choosing a green marble; choosing a red marble
my answer: b. choosing a red marble;choosing a marble that is not red

well two events to be complementary occurs only when one event occurs if and only if the other does not, the probabilities of two complimentary events add up to 1 .

a, b and d are complementary. c is not complementary the reason being that it is possible to choose another blue marble.
