Does the magnetic field- due to the current carrying wire- curve in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction in the area between the poles of the horseshoe magnet? How do you know?

I have no idea why the horsesoe magnet is placed there after all, but for the magnetic field due to the wire: for picture A, the magnetic field is clockwise for picture B, the magnetic field is counterclockwise you can use the right-hand rule to define the direction of the magnetic field.

Thanks.
