Can you please double check my question?? A biologist divides the seedlings he collected into those that will produce berries and those that will not. He then randomly selects 10 seedlings from each group. Which type of sampling method did he use? a. convenience sampling b. systematic sampling c. simple random sampling d. stratified random sampling My answer: c. simple random sampling I definitely think it is simple random sampling because he is choosing at random.. is my answer right?? Can you please confirm with me?? thanks!!
Stratified sampling is a method of sampling that takes into consideration known differences within the underlying population. The type of sampling used in this case is not simple random sampling, the reason being that prior selection was made.
@iheartfood Do you follow?
not really haha i am kinda lost.... :O
wait so is it simple random sampling (like i though??) or is it stratified random sampling??? And why is it like that??? i am super confused now hahaa it has to be one of those cuz it is random tho right?
**like i thought?? haha not though my bad
The answer is as wat kropot72 says. It is stratified sampling. Stratified sampling is when you divide the population into sub categories( or stratums) This is shown when the biologist separated the seedlings between those that will have berries and those that will not. However i think it is also important to note that the biologist then carried out simple random sampling when he select 10 seedlings from each group. To answer this question, stratified sampling would be the wiser choice.(cause that is what the question is asking for)
oh okay thanks @tiaph !!! :) And thanks kropot72!! :) @tiaph, ima give you a medal but can you please also give @kropot72 one because it only lets me give one for some reason.. :/
As I said, it is not simple random sampling the reason being that the biologist made a selection into two categories (those that will produce berries and those that will not produce berries) and followed this selection with random samples of each category. It is usual to use random selection as part of stratified sampling
thanks again! I am gonna post another one i need double checking on... I think that one should be right tho.. idk haha thanks :)
yes so he is carrying out simple random selection within the individual stratums.
I am not saying that simple random selection is the correct answer. just wanted to point that out. So incase if a questions asks, what are the sampling methods that are used? then the correct answer will be stratified sampling and simple random sampling, no?
yeah but now that you guys explained, i can see that it is stratified cuz they had a system before hand and chose so it wasn't just randomly selected... haha thanks :)
