add the fractions inside the brackets \[\frac{x(x+4) + 6(x -4)}{(x+4)(x-4)} \] factorise the divisor \[\frac{3}{2( x-4)(x+4)}\] when dividing by a fraction invert and multiply \[\frac{x(x+4) +6(x-4)}{(x-4)(x+4)} \times \frac{2(x-4)(x+4)}{3}\] remove the common factor of (x-4)(x+4) leaves \[\frac{2( x(x +4)+6(x-4))}{3}\] simplify the numerator \[\frac{2x^2 + 20x - 48}{3}\]
