Griselda budgets 45$ per month before sales tax for clothes. How much will she spend on clothes each month if she is charged 7% sales tax?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you need to multiply the original amount by to get sales tax?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45$ divided by 7% ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are going to need to convert 7% into a decimal, do you know how to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 % over 100 . if not that then no.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct, so based on that, how much tax will she be paying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7.00 $ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, you need to multiply the rate at which she is paying tax by the amount of tax she is paying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.15 $

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i add 45$ to 3.15 $ and get 48.15 $ so 48.15 is the answer right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so, is the question asking you how much it costs to buy $45 of clothing with tax or is it asking you how much clothing you can get for $45 before tax. If it's the first one, then you are done.

thank you so much for explaining it ot me!!
