-8r+8<-2(3r-9) solve the inequality and reprersent your answer in a set builder notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r > -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! but i dont know anything whit this one I have to show how i got this answer if you show me how to start it off i may can get back to you with how i got the answer.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-8r+8<-2(3r-9) -8r+8<-6r+18 -8r<-6r+18-8 -8r+6r<18-8 Do you see where to go from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not at all very lost trying to look in my math book for an example that may help me get to the answer that was given.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so do you want me to keep going?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i guess the answer will help me for now but not when i have to take the test.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-8r+8<-2(3r-9) -8r+8<-6r+18 -8r<-6r+18-8 -8r+6r<18-8 -2r<10 r > 10/(-2) ... Note: the sign flips because we're dividing both sides by a negative number r > -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do you mean i only needed to change all the + to - to come up with this answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

not sure what you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

instead of adding i should be subtracting? and then divide

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh, I'm subtracting 8 from both sides in step 3 then I'm adding 6r to both sides in step 4 This is so I get all the 'r' terms on one side (and everything else on the other)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

then I combined like terms, after that I divided both sides by -2
