The effects of machine guns in world war I and 2is that opposing sides had the abbility to take down their enemies from far distances faster. The machine gun was the cause for entrenchment. The Machine gun forced them to dig, the artillery kept them there. Armies could no longer win wars by mass numbers alone. New tactics had to be devised and new eapons to keep up with the growth in technology.
would this be a long term effect of the invention ?
Yes of course. The weapons and more sophisticated ones are still being used today.
thanks
