Alternatively, consider each triangular face by itself. Assuming they are equivalent, the surface area of your pyramid reduces to 4 times the area of each triangle. I also forgot the fact that you'd have to take away one side of the cube, so you're actually doing the area of 4 squares and adding it to the area of 4 triangles.
