Find the distance between (1, 2) and (4, 6). Round the answer to the nearest hundredth, if necessary. A) 5 units B) 5 units C) 5.15 units D) 4.85 units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I gave you the formula for this before when you asked..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distance formula is: \[ d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay how do you tell the difference between x^2, x^1.. Y2, y1 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Call (1,2) point 1, and (4,6) point 2. So, \(x_1=1, x_2=4, y_1=2, y_2=6\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can pick either point as point 1, distance between two points is the same regardless of which direction you go.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait isnt 6 x2, 2 x1... 4 y2 & 1 y1??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Points are (x,y), not (y,x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm so confused....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x coordinate -------------> (x, y) <-------------------- y coordinate (x1) (1, 2) (y1) (x2) (4, 6) (y2)
