Use scientific notation to divide the following two numbers. Express the answer using scientific notation; retain at least three decimal places. (8.4 • 10^6) / (5.97 • 10^2)

OpenStudy (kainui):

What's 8.4 times 10? Should just be 84, right? What's 10^6? Well, that's just 10*10*10*10*10*10 which is just a 1 with 6 zeroes behind it. Remember, anything multiplied by 10 just adds a 0 to the end of it! So what you can do is multiply 8.4 times 5.97 and 10^6 times 10^2. From there you can increase or decrease the exponent of the 10 to get your number somewhere between 1 and 10 to keep it in scientific notation. Scientific notation is just concerned with keeping the first digit in the "ones" place and all the rest as decimal. For example, 3525 in scientific notation is just 3.525 * 10^3.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Sorry, when I said multiply earlier, I meant divide.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you come up with?

OpenStudy (kainui):

That answer I just gave you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i got it thank you, I have one more that i put on that I have left to figure it out, can you help me?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Sure I think I can try, what is it?
