The binomial x + 2 is the divisor of 4x3 – 9x2 – 30x + 8. Use complete sentences to explain how you use (either) polynomial division or synthetic division to find the quotient. Be sure to provide this quotient in your answer.

In order to use synthetic division in order to divide, first set the divisor equal to 0 and solve for x. x = -2. Then, plug the problem into the synthetic division format. Line up the coefficients of the dividend in a row, skip a line, draw a line, and set a separate box for -2 in the corner. Then bring down the first term, 4, under that number and under the line. Then multiply 4 by -2 and place it under the term -9. Find the sum and bring it under the line in the same column which should be -17. Then multiply -17 by -2 and place it under -30. Find the sum, 4, and bring it down under the line in the same column. Then multiply that, 4, by -2 and place it under the 8. Find the sum to find that there is no remainder. Then, place the lowered degrees of x for the newfound coefficients. It should be: -17x^2 + 4x. This is the quotient or depressed equation.
