What do they mean when they say: Write an introduction that sets the context, and provides background information about genre?

Share the context of whatever it is you are writing - why you are writing it, when did you write it etc. Providing background information about the genre might cause you to do a little research of the genre of what you are writing.

I think the background part speaks for itself.
A thesis and a mention of your three key points will set the context of your paper.
