as @Eyad said.. you have to think of two numbers their product is -24 and their sum is 5

these numbers are 8 and -3
8(-3) = -24
8-3 = 5

so the equation can be factorized to

(x-3)(x+8) = 0

thus the solutions are
x=3 and x=-8
