OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

is there any shortcut in verifying if a differential equation is exact??

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

wolframalpha.com!! ;)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

^wth

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a differential equation of the the form \[M\text dx+N \text dy =0\]is exact if \[\frac{\partial M}{\partial y}=\frac{\partial N}{\partial x}\] if it is not exact and integrating factor might make it exact \[\frac{\partial RM}{\partial y}=\frac{\partial RN}{\partial x}\] \(R\) could be \(R(x),R(y)\) or \(R(x,y)\)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i meant able to tell if exact just by looking...is it possible?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

if you can take partial derivatives in your head it is not that hard, unless you need an integrating factor
