Confusing question... how are we supposed to interpret these sets? Are we supposed to find the intersection of those sets, or the cardinality of the intersection?

I would have a tendency to answer the question this way:
Set E = {134,304,234,39}
Set W = {232,232,234,205}
$$E \cap W = \text{{234}}$$
Cardinality is simply the number of elements in the set, so 1.
