Why does a loaded chairlift require more energy to start than it does to remain in motion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because all the energy is potential, which is what you have to transform into kinetic energy. When it's in motion, some of the energy is kinetic, so you don't have much potential energy to convert into kinetic energy to keep it moving.

Wow, had a brain fart there. Thanks!
