Hello, I study problems of digital preservation @ Tampere university, school of information science. My question is: Would it be possible to produce microprocessors of 80's similar to the one's produced then using the equipment used to manufacture latest microprocessors? (If we wouldn't have to care about the costs and we forget the sensibility of such activity.)

Yes, ofcourse we can, though I don't have any technical reason behind this answer.

i dont think we can manufacture a chip that was designed for X process using a Y process. you have to redesign the chip again. architecture may not change.. but you have to simulate and layout from scratch again...
