Find the altitude of parallelogram one of whose side is 10cm and its area is 0.7sq.m

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Well, same kinda question, area = base * height, you got one side-length and the area with you, find the missing 'height'!

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

the base is nothing but one of the sides of the parallelogram, isn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah!

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

so, what would the 'height' be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

700cm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10cm*700cm=7000sq.cm=0.7sq.m

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

uh-oh! if, area = base x height, then, height = area/base --> right? but you seem to have multiplied them. try again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7000cm?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

umm... a wee bit of a mistake. area = 0.7 sq. m. = 7000 sq. cm. base = 10 cm. so what's area/base then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

700cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 700cm?
