Driving....hmmm....awww no fair I have to wait until I'm older....awww....... XXDDDDDD Lucinda is driving away from Redding at 50 miles per hour. When she is 100 miles away, Tom leaves Redding, driving at 60 miles per hour in the same direction. After how many hours will Tom pass Lucinda?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Lucinda has a 2 hour advantage over Tom. Make a chart like this: |dw:1338839408436:dw| Use the equation d=rt, and create the two equations. Now, since D is equal to itself, you can set the equations equal to each other. you get: \[50(t+2)=60t\] Simplify, and you get 50t+100 = 60t Now, just solve for t. You should get t=10 hours
