What is the difference between a postulate and theorem in Geometry?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

I believe a theorem can be proven, while a postulate is merely affirmed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

Another word you may hear for "postulate" is "axiom." Both are often used interchangeably.
