people assume that they are good to eat... in new jersey a while back a couple of boys (brothers) died after consuming mushrooms they found.

And to add to what Hello correctly says, the differences in appearance between the edible ones and poisonous ones are very slight. A few years back, there was an incident in my home town where a professional mycologist (fungus scientist) ate some bad ones by mistake. He was injured in dignity alone, but it goes to show...
