HELP! VECTOR ASSIGNMENT: let V be the span of {(1,2,3,4),(2,3,4,5),(8,6,4,2)}. Find the basis for V^_|_

@Zarkon help me with this one, if you can?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just to verify, is that notation you are using for the subspace perpendicular (or orthogonal) to the span of V?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@joemath314159 yep haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question you are asking is just a complicated way of asking what is a basis for the Null Space (or Kernel) of the matrix whose rows are those three vectors.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh your interpretation makes more sense! alright ill try it now, thanks @joemath314159

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@joemath314159 i think i know how to find the basis of the matrix but im not too confidfent about null spaces or kernels. can you explain that to me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you make a matrix with those vector you are given as the rows (not columns). Then row reduce. Have you heard of the terms "free variables"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

done, i have (1,2,3,4),(0,-1,-2,-3),(0,0,0,0)
