The mapping:\[(x,y)\longrightarrow (x-8,y+1)\]is telling you the instructions for what to do with the point (x,y). You subtract 8 from the x coordinate, and add 1 to the y coordinate. For example, if you were given the point (10,3), this mapping would give:\[(10,3)\longrightarrow (10-8,3+1)=(2,4)\]so the answer would be (2,4).
