OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

how many minimum knights would be required on a chess board so that each and every square block is reachable/capturable etc by some knight ?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

well the same ques may be asked for bishops, rooks, queens etc.. i havent tried this thing yet..just came in my mind,,and am going to try it now..thought i should post it here..

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

this is a good question

OpenStudy (phi):

In 1 move?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

1 move? i may not have worded thee ques correctly am sorry i just mean how many minimum knights(4,5,6,7,8... etc) would you put on a chess board so that all the blocks are covered by some or the other knight..

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

was i clear enough second time sir?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many different places can a knight move to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide the number of blocks on the chess board by that number

OpenStudy (aravindg):

ahem....anyone speaking of chess ? i am an international chess player

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Forget it my method is wrong but it does give you an estimate.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

ohh..thank you @experimentX !! lol.. ;)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

i hav got better :P

OpenStudy (experimentx):

might be related to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight's_tour

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

hmmn,,well i dont know really if that'd help .. how will that help in knowing the min no. of knights on the chess board ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we are allowed to take more than one move then 1 knight is enough.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

why dont u try that on a chess board ?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

well am sorry,,i think i still havent worded it correctly..leme try again..

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

|dw:1339008789293:dw| circle represents knight and boxes represents the block which has been covered/tackled/etc by some knight.. the ques asks you how many min circles can be there on the board so that the whole board is full with boxes+cirlces .. hmmn,,was the clearer this time ?
