What is the remainder when (2x3 – 8x2 + 6x – 36) ÷ (x – 4) ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i simple way to do these is just to make x=4 and see what the left part equals out to be

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might wanna factor out the 2 first to make the numbers smaller tho

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if i see it right, (-36+24)/(x-4)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but they might not be wanting the denominator in that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the remainder by -12 then?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might be, but thats just what i think i see if i do it in my head

OpenStudy (amistre64):

248006, 6*4,24 ... -36+24

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how would we prove if thats the right answer tho?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plugging it back into the equation?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

umm, no. that doesnt work for this since they arent asking for what x equals

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we could either longhand divide it, or syntheitic divide it ... i did the synth part in my head ... i think lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh!! Okay! I get when you're asking now! Okay thank you so much!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)
