What happens when the level of serum uric acid increases in the body?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What happends to the body, or what could be some causes to this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

symptoms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's really hard to tell, since the symptoms could be the cause of Hyperuricemia.. Uric acid is a break down product of Purines, From there it dissolves into the bloodstream and is excreted with the urine. One symptom cloosely related to it is Kiddney failure or kiddney problems in general. But in reality it could be the cause of the Uric acid build up in your system. questions?

i've seen this, it was the sec. option on google anyway thanx!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what causes the increase in serum uric acid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only site i found with information im willing to trust. "The clinical scenarios under which hyperuricemia can be symptomatic are gout, uric acid stones, or uric acid nephropathy." Uric acid stones (roughly kidney stones), Uric acid Nephropathy (Kidney damage due to Uric acid) Source: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/241767-treatment

Thank You :)

Basically if it's a primary cause then it can only be due to increased breakdown of Purine (So you'd want to look up increased synthesis of Purine). Or unable to excrete sufficiant amount of Uric acid in which case it would be a kidney problem. (See the paradox i mentioned, It's registered as a symptom, while it could aswell be the cause of it.)
