a girl attempts to row across a river flowing in an easterly direction with a current of 1.00m/s. She can row her boat at 3.00m/s. She aims the boat at a jetty on the other side of the river that is 35degrees east of north from where she is. In what direction does she head?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vx= velocity of boat in horizontal direction, Vy = velocity of boat in vertical direction, Vx= 3cos(35) + 1. here 3cos(35) is component of boats velocity in horizontal direction and 1 is the velocity of the river in horizontal direction. Vy = 3sin(35) + 0 . here 3sin(35) is component of velocity of boat in vertical direction and 0 is velocity of river current in vertical direction.(since river currents are only in east and not in north or south.)|dw:1339035798384:dw|
