Why is nuclear power not a good idea?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fucoshima, hiroshima, nagasaki, chernobyl...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its very bad! 1) It is too expensive 2) Produces a lot of waste 3) Extreme safety hazard

thanks !

it should be stated that a lot of current energy sources are extremely hazardous and almost any chemical plantation can explode.. A nuclear power plant in itself is not that dangerous since they are build to be extremely safe. The danger lies in the fact that when a nuclear plant explodes, radioactive materials are blown into the air which is a lot more dangerous than any non-radioactive material... Plus, the waste of a nuclear power station is radioactive and, therefore, cannot be thrown away and must be stored (burred in lead lined safety containers) for many years before they become safe... Because of this, a nuclear power-plant is not just dangerous for a short time but can cause problems for decades if the waste was not stored correctly, or if something happens to the waste before it has degraded enough to be non-lethal. Also, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are not really the best examples since the destruction there was caused by a nuclear bomb not a power-station; however, they are the best examples for the disastrous results of high amounts of radioactive waste.
