Exponential functions either increase or decrease with respect to its size like population explosion, bacterial growth, etc. Unlike linear functions, they are curves and definitely not straight. Quadratic functions are always parabolas. Cubic functions always have a curve in the middle [inflection] and rational functions are often really weird graphs depending on what the actual function looks like.
