I know the answer I just want to make sure I am right... A carpenter proposes to make 4 triangular shelves of the following dimensions: Shelf 1: 8 inches, 14 inches, 19 inches Shelf 2: 10 inches, 16 inches, 25 inches Shelf 3: 10 inches, 21 inches, 33 inches Shelf 4: 7 inches, 20 inches, 30 inches Which of the above shelf dimensions are not possible? Shelf 1 and Shelf 2 Shelf 1 and Shelf 4 Shelf 2 and Shelf 3 Shelf 3 and Shelf 4 I think it is shelf 1 and 2! am i right?
a triangle is only possible if when you add two sides the sum is greater than the third side
shelf 1...add8 and 14 = 22 that's greater than the third side 8 + 19 > 14 19 + 14 > 8 therefore shelf 1 is a triangle
check each shelf with this kind of logic got it?
oh ok i got it all messed up..i was thinking that when you add the two sides the sum has to be less then the third side
haha =)) now you know
shelf 3 and 4, right?
yeps
you know why right?
alright thannx so much! yes because when i add both sides they were less than the third side..when they are really suppose to be bigger than the third side! ;)
