Quadrilateral ABCD in the figure below represents a scaled-down model of a walkway around a historic site. Quadrilateral EFGH represents the actual walkway. ABCD is similar to EFGH. What is the total length, in feet, of the actual walkway?
EF/AB=x multiply BC, CD and DA with x and add to get the final amount.. Of course, don't forget to make sure it's all in ft before you start calculating
multyplying BC, CD, AND DA =240
*FT
how do i figure out ef/ab=x?
ef/ba=9..right?
you multiplied each part with x right not with each other? you know the length of EF and the length of AB so that shouldn't be a problem.. maybe, I don't know how many ft 5 in is.. we work work meters here..
oh wait, thats what i missed, there is inches and feet involved
what do you mean i multiplied each part with x??
45 feet=540 inches
First calculate x then multiply the length of each line from ABCD with x then add all of those.. so the equation would be (AB*x)+(BC*x)+(CD*x)+(DA*x)
thats what i dont get..whats x?
EF/AB=x
so 540 inches?i wnt fromft to inches?
you just said that 45ft = 540 inch
so now it would be (AB*540) AND SO ON?
than EF= 45 ft = 540 inch and AB= 5 inch as given so x would be 540/5
108
SO (AB*108) AND SO ON
yes, exactly
OK let me do this real fast, I will reply my answer and you teel me if its right, just one minute!
got it 1,728
now I have to convert to feet, right?
Because the figures have exactly the same angles it is possible to figure out how figure ABCD relates to EFGH by dividing one line of EFGH by the corresponding line from ABCD.. if you know how they relate to each other all you have to do it multiply all the lines from figure ABCD to figure out what the lengths of the other lines of EFGH are.. if you know all the lengths it's just a question of adding..
=144 feet
Yes, if you converted all of it to inches first that you'll have to convert it back to ft
is 144 ft, right?
I think that is correct, my head calculations aren't perfect but it seems right to me :)
are you sure that is the right formula and all? what if i were guessing?
I am sure that that is the right formula.. It's logic, I'm good with logic... and if you were guessing than you will have a problem when you have to give the answer to your teacher :p I'm just here because I need to keep answering questions like these to stay in form
I was just asking, and no I wouldnt be guessing, that would be mean of me to do, because you are actually taking your time to hep me out! thank you so much!! truly appreciated! ;) giving you best answer!
haha thanks but it wouldn't be mean.. It wouldn't be smart either but it is you're choice.. :)
thnx so much!
