How do you simplify 5C3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5c^3. It is in simplest form already

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THe question asked to simplify the expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it multiple choice? List possible answers in comments

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not multiple choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay well its actually quite simple. The number 3 after C is your exponent. Do you know how to multiply a number when it has an exponent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or is it a cominatory number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combinatory*

hero (hero):

Set it up as a fraction and then cancel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ignore the c in the equation for now. The exponent want you to multiply your number by itself 3 times. So it would look like this: 5x5x5=125. so your answer would be 125c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hit the best answer button if I helped you out

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you can do (5P3)/3!

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

I believe the question is to simplify: \(_5C_3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 10 but i dont know if its correct

OpenStudy (amistre64):

10 seems good, but how did you get it?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

\[_nC_r=\frac{n!}{(n-r)!r!}\]

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

have you seen that formula before?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i have, but never cared for it tho lol

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah ive seen it before

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

and is that the formula you used to calculate your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thanks i think im okay now :)

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

so then you are good - your answer is correct and you used the correct formula to calculate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks everyone :-)

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yw :)
