determine an expression to find the area of the shaded region for the figure. view picture: http://minus.com/mbfgK1cl58/ Please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Radius of the circle= 1/2(length of the square)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So now find area of square- area of circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2r^2 - Pir^2 but the book says 4r^2 - Pir^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4r ^{2} - \pi r^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square has side \(2r\) and so area is \(4r^2\) circle has radius \(r\) and area \(\pi r^2\) subtract and get \[4r^2-\pi r^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you forgot to square the two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4r^2\] You forgot to square your 2 for are of square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(2r)^2=4r^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so one side of the square is 2r and the formla would be (2r)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I get it know. Thanks guys
