L = Ph,
where L is the lateral area,
P is the perimeter of either base, and
h is the height of the prism.

A = L + 2B,
where A is the total surface area,
L is (again) the lateral area (you could substitute Ph), and
B is the area of each base. (The formula adds 2B because there are two bases on a prism.)
