I tell my students that if the story has no conflict, then it probably wasn't worth reading in the first place.

In all seriousness, though, sometimes the conflict might not be apparent. Look for both internal and external conflicts. The internal ones will show some type of growth of a character. If you can't put the story into the plot diagram (Freytag's Pyramid), then there is something wrong...
